Friday July 22nd: Forgiven

Feast of St. Mary Magdalene.

Her grace moment was receiving forgiveness from the Lord.

John 20: 1 – 2. 11 – 18

Mary Magdalene is an extraordinary figure in the gospels. When she first appeared, she was a victim. She was thought to be possessed by seven demons, to have a bad name. She was believed to be a prostitute. Her grace moment was receiving forgiveness from the Lord. From then she became a devoted follower of Jesus, even providing for them out of her own means.
Mary Magdalene’s devotion and love for Jesus was so deep and sincere that she remained at the cross when others ran away. Today, we meet her at Jesus’ tomb unwilling to let him go, even in death.
Her love and undying hope bore fruit. She was the first to see the risen Lord, though she did not recognize him at first. In her joy, she ran to tell the other disciples she had seen the Lord. Mary has the privilege of being the first to announce the good news that the Lord had risen from the dead.
Lord Jesus, touch and change our hearts. Amen.
