15 receive First Holy Communion

Fifteen children from the Manzanilla Parish received Jesus in Holy Communion for the first time July 3. Parish priest Fr Kenwyn Sylvester celebrated Holy Mass at St Paul’s RC Church.

It was a particularly challenging time for the candidates as they began this spiritual journey during the pandemic. Churches were closed so they had to do classes online, which had its advantages and disadvantages.

After months of studying and preparation, the important and special day in their lives had finally arrived. The children were anxious and excited to receive their first Communion. They all participated in the celebration, proclaiming the Word of God, taking up the collection and praying the Prayers of the Faithful. It was truly a wonderful, happy, and memorable day for the children.

They thanked God for guiding them through the many challenges they encountered during their studies. They also thanked Fr Kenwyn, catechist Bernadine Sankar, parents, godparents and the church community for their encouragement and support during their spiritual journey.

The new communicants were Latisha Brooks, Sadie Sankar, Emily Ramkissoon, Fiona Roberts, Faith Singh, Afya Bernard, Nichelle Alexis, Tia Marie Castillo, Kiera Garcia, Jayda Benjamin, Cedella James, Michael La Fon, David Chamoo, Mickyle James, and Michieal James — Photo and story courtesy Nicholas Sankar
