Friday June 24th: Celebrating the return!

Sacred Heart. Solemnity.

“Rejoice with me, I have found my sheep that was lost.”

Luke 15: 3 – 7

Today as we celebrate the solemnity of the Sacred Heart, our first thought is, what does the heart of Jesus mean to us? We know what other people’s hearts mean to us. Some are filled with love and good intentions towards us. Others are filled with hate and ill will towards. What does Jesus’ heart hold for us?

The gospel passage speaks of a shepherd caring for his flock but one strayed. With deep concern he left the others to look for the one that strayed and he celebrated when he found it. That is a fitting image of Jesus’ heart towards us.

Like the shepherd to his sheep, Jesus is filled with love and concern for each one. We are not a group of people before Jesus. We are, each one, a special individual to him. He will go to great lengths out of love for each one.

Jesus’ heart is love and sacrifice towards us. He cares for us, seeks us out when we are lost and celebrates our return.
