“First cast out the beam out of your own eye; and then you shall see clearly to cast out the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
Matthew 7:1-5
Sometimes people can get so tunneled vision about their goals and protecting their energy without realizing what others around them have to put up with. This is at the heart of the matter of today’s Gospel. Jesus is cutting straight through our pride beam and calling us to holiness through humility.
If we renounce pride, we will see the defects to which Jesus wants to highlight so that we can foster better relationships with Him and others. When we look at the lives of the saints, they thought very little of themselves but spent their time offering reparation for their own sins and trying to embody the virtues of Christ. If we spend more time working on becoming more disciplined- managing our time, money and emotions effectively, we will not have time to be concerned with the flaws of others.
Prayer: Lord, show me the ways in which I constantly fall short of your grace and help me to overcome these defects.
