“Do not worry …; tomorrow will take care of itself.”
Matthew 6:24-34
I remember my parents telling us as children that there are consequences to our choices and what happens to us in life is a consequence of our choices. Choices are part of life.
Today’s Gospel reminds us that we need to make a choice between loyalty to the God we believe in and loyalty to money; we cannot serve both. Sometimes we are lured by power, status and financial independence and lose focus on our values. We stray away from God who cares and provides for our every need if we remain loyal to Him.
The passage challenges us to have implicit trust in God as we continue to participate in acts of love and peace and justice knowing that God will take care of everything. Leave it all in his hands for ‘each day has enough trouble of its own’.
Help us Lord, to keep focused on our values so that we can always make the right choices. Help us to realize that these choices come about because of our strong relationship with you.
