Friday June 17th: The Treasure of Faith

While earthly treasures may be here today and gone tomorrow, faith endures unto eternal life.

Matthew 6:19- 23

Today Jesus speaks about storing treasure. Throughout the centuries people have acquired and safeguarded treasures. Treasure represents a family’s or individual’s future security. The one who has and can protect their treasure has a better future than the one who has none.

Treasures are things, be they precious metals, collections or money. Try as one may, treasures are always susceptible to theft and decay rendering them weak as a means of future security.

Jesus says instead to store up treasures in heaven where no moth or woodworm can eat them and no one can touch them. The treasure he speaks of is faith. Faith comes from God and is sustained by Him, therefore, it lasts until the end.

While earthly treasures may be here today and gone tomorrow, faith endures unto eternal life. Thus a much better security for us is faith in God.

Open one’s heart to faith, develop it and sustain it, and it becomes a better guarantee than all the other treasures of the world.
