Monday June 13th: Choose Peace

“Do not take revenge on someone who has wronged you”

Matthew 5:38-42

Recently we have been hearing about violence in our schools. In the most popular story many believed that  a child choosing violence as a form of  protection from the class bully was justified.  Many also believed that a child being expelled for violence was also justified. If we learnt anything from the public reaction it is that most people believe in an eye for an eye. Many believe that people must be punished for unruly actions.

The hardest thing to do, even as Christians, is to turn the other cheek.  Society sees you as being foolish and weak if you don’t fight back but the gospel just calls us to take a different route.  Is it really possible? How can we teach our younger generation to choose peace when we ourselves would not?

We live in a world where conflict in our relationships and anxiety in our lives make us distrust the concept of peace but let us trust the Word of God.
