Letting our peace descend…
Matthew 10: 7-13
It is as if Jesus gave the apostles their job description. He commissions them to proclaim the coming of the kingdom, cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. We can look at this gospel from two angles.
As employees, are we, with joy, enthusiasm and thankfulness, fulfilling our fullest potential at work; or are we just showing up and doing the bare minimum just to collect a salary at the end of the month? Are we ‘letting our peace descend’ upon our work and the people we work with?
On the other hand, if we are employers of persons, the gospel passage speaks to the workman deserving his keep. When people work for us, giving of their time, skill and learning, are we treating them fairly and giving them what they deserve according to our spiritual mandate as employers, or do we squeeze out more than we pay for? Are we ‘letting our peace descend’ upon our employees?
Dear Lord, let me respect and uphold the spirituality of work. Amen.
