Feast of the Visitation
“My soul proclaims the greatness of God.”
Luke 1:39-56
Blessed and highly favored indeed she was, yet she did not bask in her glory, wearing it as a badge of honour, but made a trek in haste to the hill country. Along the path of the Ark of the Covenant, this sinless virgin, Ark of the New Covenant, carrying within her womb the Promised Messiah, made her way to an old cousin with child to share in her good news and lend support.
And what an encounter! Her visit not only brings joy, eliciting a response from the babe in her cousin’s womb, but true evangelizer, she spontaneously proclaims the greatness of a God for whom nothing is impossible and who reverses fortunes. If for every grace and blessing we receive in our daily lives we were to pattern her example it would be a tremendous way to spread the joy of the Gospel and bring others to an experience of Christ.
Lord, as we journey to Pentecost fill us with your Holy Spirit and make us missionary disciples like our Blessed Mother. Amen.
