“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now”
John 16:12-15
As parents, we know the emotions of sending our children off to study or even to marriage. The time flies so quickly between childhood and young adulthood that we often have a sense that “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now”
We want to pour out all our love for them. They too are often anxious about the future and we as parents try to find words and do things to comfort and strengthen them for the next stage. We say and do everything possible that will make them remember our sustaining love for them.
We are like Jesus preparing his disciples for his departure. We too know that it is the Spirit who will lead our children to the truth. Only the Spirit will help them sift through the various noises of the world, to meditate on God’s message to show them how to live as God wants all of us to; as well as how He does not.
