Tuesday May 17th: Coming home

“And we shall come to him and make our home in him”

John 14:21-26

True Love is like coming home. When we open our hearts to loving someone we embrace all aspects of that person until we are comfortable enough with each other to “show” our true selves. Our lives become sacred stories to each other so that with them we are at “home”. It is as though we are guided by a source greater than ourselves. Yet we know beautiful experiences like these do not last forever. Nevertheless, our memories are there to “remind” us of our love.
Jesus understood this process of love only too well. That was why on the night before his passion he told his disciples he would “show” himself to those who loved him and the Father and himself would make their “home” in that person. Knowing his time with them was almost at an end, he promised to send someone, the Holy Spirit, to “remind” them of all he had spoken to them. In other words, to live in their memories.
Thank you, Jesus, for making your home in us.
