‘I am the good shepherd.’
John 10: 1-10
In this gospel Jesus compares himself to the shepherd who has a thorough knowledge of his flock such that he can call them out ‘one by one’. As a shepherd he will go ahead of them and they will follow him as they know his voice, and what is most important is that he has come, ‘so that they may have life and have it to the full’.
This is one of the most consoling passages of the New Testament where Jesus affirms that he has come so that we may have life to the full. If then, we are followers of Jesus it means that we too must be good shepherds and have come that others may have life to the full.
Jesus did this by loving all to the point of death. It means that we too must do all we can and give our lives to making sure that others have life to the full.
