“He brought me to the banqueting house, and His intention toward me was Love”
John 6:44-51
When I was pregnant with my second child, I was very ill. For seven months I was bedridden and salivated constantly. My body rejected food and I survived for months on the ends of the unconsecrated bread which a kind lady would bring weekly. I waited anxiously and was astounded each time by the satisfaction I received in its consummation.
In this Gospel, Jesus reveals not only the dynamism and perfect union of the Trinity, but God’s deep desire to be intimate with us. This was God’s plan from the beginning: That Jesus Christ would reveal the face of the invisible God and dwell in our souls to purge us of sin through Eucharist. Reflecting on this brings to mind this verse of Scripture: “He brought me to the banqueting house, and His intention toward me was Love” (Song of Solomon2:4)
O Triune God, may our hearts burn with love for You as we receive you in the Holy Banquet- a prelude of eternal life. Amen
