They knew quite well it was the Lord.
John 21: 1 – 14
When Jesus showed himself again to the disciples on the day of resurrection, they were by the Sea of Tiberias because they needed a familiar place since their mood was as depressing as that of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They still thought Jesus was dead because they had not yet grasped the resurrection.
Jesus’ appearance was a beautiful act of love. He knew they were struggling and suffering. He did not reprimand them for their sadness or for going back fishing. He simply guided them.
The turning point was the familiar catch of fish. Jesus led them to a huge catch of fish in the same way he led Peter to a huge catch on a previous occasion. The catch was the reminder that he had already called them to be fishers of people. They could not go back.
Their eyes were opened then. They knew quite well it was the Lord. They needed to make that journey in order to move on. And Jesus was happy to journey with them.
