What Easter means to me

Easter to many is just the best long weekend in the Trini calendar but if you are truly fortunate, Easter is supposed to be one of the high points of your Christian experience. Everything about Easter is beautiful! Our sub-editor for our Women’s Blog, Denise Scott asked other Catholic women to share their thoughts on the Easter season.

What does Easter mean to you?

Easter is a period of rebirth or reawakening for me. The solemnity, reflection and reconciliation during Lent brings me to a place of true joy as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Saviour and the promise of everlasting life.

What is your favourite part of the Easter Triduum?

My favourite part of the Triduum is the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. Carrying the physical cross for just a short period helps me to carry all my crosses in life knowing the reward is Heaven.

Do you have a favourite Easter hymn?

I have been searching for my favourite hymn for quite some time. It doesn’t seem to be in the current book but as children, we sang a song that went as follows: “There lived a man who walked from Galilee and the things He did were beautiful, and the things He did were wonderful, and He wanted us to follow in His way…”

Favourite Easter food?

Hot Cross buns and ham!

Do you have an Easter family tradition?

Our family Easter tradition is Good Friday brunch of buljol and hot cross buns, baked fish, and ground provision after walking Stations of the Cross. Easter eggs on Easter Sunday are a huge treat after giving up chocolate for Lent.
