“What I enjoyed in the programme was being connected with those with a similar perspective” – Maria Samad

Are you seeking community and an opportunity to deepen your faith and create a better world? The Franciscan Institute (FI) has the programme for you! Become a Laudato Si’ Animator and start leading your community towards more sustainable practices that are in line with our God-given role as stewards of creation.

What is Laudato Si’?

In May 2015, Pope Francis on seeing the destruction and devastation caused by climate change, penned an open letter to humanity. The result is the encyclical, Laudato Si’ (LS).

In the words of Pope Francis, “LAUDATO SI,’ mi’ Signore – Praise be to you, my Lord.” The beautiful canticle, [by] St Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us. “Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs.”

As Catholics, we all have a duty to care for our common home, the Earth, and all its creatures.

Testimonial

“By embarking on the course, I felt comforted by the fact that participants like me, are concerned to play our part, not only in waking up the world to the ecological challenges that confront us, and for which human beings are to a large extent responsible, but in embracing and sharing ideas about how we can pull back from the ‘brink’.

The Course truly helped me to grow spiritually and provided leadership development training which equipped me with the skills I need to inspire/motivate others within our Archdiocese to live Laudato Si’ also by taking urgent climate action. The format of the course—prayer, homework, pre-reading, constant support, video presentations by experts in the field, opportunity to post one’s views on various ecological issues, to meet during online dialogue with other participants, and to complete an action project was well structured.

I also valued receiving a certificate at the end of the course and participating in the online graduation with other course participants.” – Leela Ramdeen, Chair, Catholic Commission for Social Justice
