Let’s talk Health and Wellness with Giselle Burton
Ladies, Health, and Wellness encompass many facets of our life: such as our physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, environmental, and occupational self.
For women, it is crucial to achieve equilibrium in our daily life. It can begin with simple habits that over time can become a lifestyle that would guarantee good health and wellness.
The daily intake of water is a simple habit that can contribute to good health and wellness. We have been taught over the years that eight glasses of water are sufficient but in reality, consideration must be given to one’s gender, age, and weight. Other factors such as exercise, environment, overall health, pregnancy, and breastfeeding would influence the amount of water we in fact need.
Do you know if you are hydrated? Two simple indicators that can tell if you are consuming sufficient amounts of water are: that you rarely feel thirsty, or your urine is colourless or light yellow.
There is also the need to be mindful of ways to prevent dehydration by simply consuming water: with each meal and between meals, before, during and after exercise, and if you feel thirsty.
Excessive consumption of even a valuable substance such as water can lead to a life-threatening condition of hypernatremia (excessive water intake which can result in your kidneys not being able to rid the excess water causing the sodium content in the blood becoming diluted).
Therefore, there is a need for balance. In the same way we need to regulate and manage our water intake, we need to also regulate and manage all other areas of our lives.
Remember, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19). Achieving balance in all areas of your life may seem overwhelming, but don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6–7).
