Tuesday March 22nd: Forgiveness

How often must I forgive

Matthew 18:21-35

In the message in the Gospel passage today, “There is no limit to forgiveness.”

Jesus’ concern is with our relationship amongst family, community, Church. He knows about the lovelessness, unforgiveness, coldness, the incompatible relationships and the nature of our heart.

Jesus’ call is “forgive seventy times seven”.

Generosity in forgiveness is essential to our relation and journey with Christ.

Forgiveness must be without limit. God’s forgiveness is limitless.

Forgiveness is from the heart; Jesus is asking us to forgive from the heart.

Jesus is asking us to do it. He knows how hard it is to forgive when we are hurt especially by those who are close to us.

Today we are burdened by guilt and we rationalize what has happened and it’s difficult to forgive our brothers.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation provides the healing we need to forgive. It gives grace to forgive.

Jesus stands ready to forgive. Forgive your brother today.

Lord, help me to put into practice the forgiveness I receive in the Sacrament of Penance.
