Five Catholic primary schools have received 3,000 books for their student population.
Foundation for the Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL) in collaboration with the Canadian non-profit organisation, Project 99A, distributed the story books, novels, workbooks and encyclopedias to San Raphael, Brazil, Talparo, Mundo Nuevo and Las Lomas RC Schools.
In donating the 3,000 books, CEO at FEEL, Elena Villafana Sylvester thanked the principals at the schools for their efforts in steering their charges through these challenging times and encouraged them to share the books with the wider community they serve.
Chairman of Project 99A, Russell Chang, a Trinidad and Tobago son who left for Canada in the 1980s, recognised his Canadian wife Josephine Chang for her commitment to bringing the joy and enlightenment of reading to persons in his homeland. Chang also thanked Eve Anderson Recruitment Ltd, Ezone and Carib Brewery for their support with the shipping and handling, and delivery of the books to the schools.
Sylvester paid tribute to the Canadian couple for their efforts in collecting, packaging and arranging for the books to be shipped to Trinidad and Tobago.
Talparo RC Principal, Maria Lezama-Baptiste expressed her gratitude to FEEL and Project 99A, noting that it was such an unusual thing for schools in her community to be at the forefront for the receipt of donations. She celebrated the arrival of the books in the community of Talparo as a unique opportunity for parents, siblings and students to all share in the joy of reading.
