Wednesday March 9th: The sign of Jonah.

“…something greater than Jonah is here!”

Luke 11: 29-32

Unbelief and unrepented sin are among the biggest barriers to healing of mind, body, soul and spirit.  This is why Jesus rebukes the people for their unbelief when they ask for a sign that He is the Messiah.

He emphasizes to them the absolute need for repentance, since unbelief can easily lead to unconfessed sin. Whenever unconfessed sin enters into our lives, it solidifies itself and forms an unhealthy bond with us.  Too often, we do not realise it but, if left unattended, this unhealthy bond extinguishes the Light of Christ from within us and we walk in darkness.

The Good News is that we are never beyond the forgiving mercy of Christ.  We are all called to experience this Mercy through the wonderful and priceless gift of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

In this Lenten season, let us each ask God for the virtue of Humility so that we can acknowledge our need for repentance and reconcile ourselves with Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Let us be always ready to pray, “Lord, I am sorry! Forgive me.”
