Monday February 28th: The cost of discipleship

‘Go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’

Mark 10: 17-27

Can you imagine yourself having this dialogue with Jesus? Most probably he will not ask us to give everything to the poor and follow him, but he will certainly tell us what’s the one thing we lack.
There are many things that can entrap us in life. It may be possessions, opinions, good name, self-importance. These things can captivate the human heart and the real treasure can be lost
We are at present in a pandemic and it’s difficult for persons to regulate their activity in order to keep themselves and their family safe. We see public posts of parties, persons speaking to each other without masks; home limes continue and other disregard of the protocols which have been put in place to protect our safety on earth. What then are we prepared to do to gain entry into the Kingdom?
I ask for God’s help, because for him nothing is impossible. Let us not be deaf to his call, but ready to give up the one thing stopping us from following him more closely.
