Wednesday February 23rd: “..postering as librarians…”

“Do not stop them … whoever is not against us is for us.”

Mark 9:38-40

Many years ago, and more, a group friends and I started a community library in my hometown, Chaguanas. We really worked hard to accumulate resources and support from all and sundry, even soliciting some unapproachable, at least we thought so, businessmen. One group who befriended us was the Association of Librarians and we were invited to one of their meetings.

Some were indignant that a group of non-professional and untrained librarians invaded their space and “postering as librarians”, which we were not. We were just simply providing a much-needed service to the disadvantaged children of our community. The president of the group explained that we were doing great work in providing library services to our community and that we should be given the support and encouragement.

She was saying to the ‘library apostles’, “Do not stop them … whoever is not against us is for us.” This was Jesus’ work that was benefitting the children of low-income families. We thank God for these community projects that give life to communities, that reflect the work of Jesus in building the Kingdom.
