Thursday February 17th: Journey to commitment

“Who do you say I am?”

Mark 8:27-33

In today’s Gospel passage, Jesus asks his disciples, ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter acknowledges him to be the Christ; then Jesus proceeds to explain that his destiny is to suffer and be rejected and be put to death and rise on the third day. Peter does not want to hear this; he would have the glory without the journey through suffering.

We too, often react like Peter and try to dissuade our loved ones to take an easier path when they make a decision which they dread and yet accept as necessary. We want to spare them the pain and suffering that are an essential part on the journey to commitment.
As disciples of Jesus, we are entrusted with the mission to proclaim the Good News by our words and actions.

This Gospel challenges us to ask ourselves – Who is Jesus for us today? We discover that our image of Him becomes real in a concrete way when we attend to others in need.
Thank you God for every step of our journey to Christ
