Theodora celebrates a century of life

Theodora Wahid was born in Flanagin Town on  January 11, 1922, and recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

She is at present a parishioner of St Theresa’s, Barataria, where she still occasionally attends Holy Mass, the last time being Christmas Eve 2021.

On her birthday this year, she attended Holy Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Port of Spain. We are told that she received flowers, cards, and lots of phone calls, wishing her well on the milestone she has achieved.

Theodora was a very active member of the Church, having distributed Holy Communion to homes in Port of Spain for 25 years. She also assisted in the soup kitchen at the Missionaries of Charity in Laventille for 20 years. In her earlier days, she worked at the Teachers’ Training College.

She was a member of the Rosary Confraternity, Legion of Mary, and was a part of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and attended the all-night vigils. She attended the International Eucharistic Congresses in Lourdes, France, 1981; Nairobi, Kenya, 1985; Seville, Spain, 1993 and Warsaw (Wroclaw), Poland, 1997.

She has been to Lourdes three times and on pilgrimage to Medjugorje (former Yugoslavia), the Holy Land and Mexico. She was also a member of a prayer group.

The secret of her longevity and good health is prayer and a simple quiet life.
