“I want to free you.”
Mark 1:21-28
In today’s Gospel, Jesus demonstrates the fulfilment of His mission by teaching and healing. He teaches with authority and his healing, shows his authority over unclean spirits. His teaching makes a deep impression on his listeners and touches their hearts so much so that they begin to talk among themselves about how refreshing and different it is.
His healing the man possessed by an unclean spirit, shows his authority and reflects the ultimate victory of the Kingdom of God over evil and death through the Cross. Jesus shows that his authority does not oppress or cause fear or destroy but rather, liberates and frees.
After being exposed to his Word and healing touch in our own lives, we turn to Him now and ask, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus of Nazareth?’. He answers us: I want to free you, I want to heal you, I want to liberate you, I want to love you.
