Open our hearts that we may discern the call to mission.
Luke 3:15-16; 21-22
We stand before you Holy Spirit; you, who are at work in every time and place; you who hovered over the water at the dawn of creation; you who guided Abraham to listen (‘Count them stars in the night sky’) and who turned his heart away from the many gods to follow the one God; and you who in the waters of the Jordan, helped Jesus to hear the affirmation, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased’. Just as Jesus did, we ask you to open our hearts that we may discern the call to mission.
Help us to listen again and again and to hear your whispered message: to notice your guidance as we journey with our brothers and sisters. Help us to sense in our heart of hearts your Spirit calling out to us. Help us to notice when we are challenged with a project, a chore, when we lend a helping hand; help us to notice the call to us as Beloved and discern the joy of the spirit.
