What would it mean for the ‘restoration’ of generations if we recognized the divinity in each little life?
Luke 2:22-35
I have always wondered how, of all the newborn babes brought into the temple, Simeon recognized the promised Christ-child. Reflection gives me some cues: He was a devout man, expectant of the fulfillment of a promise to him and his people; and he was led by the Holy Spirit.
Looking at our country, our world today, ravaged by so many atrocities against children : abortion, rejection, neglect, abuse, trafficking, child labor, I ask myself what if, like Simeon, we were devout enough to be in tune with the Spirit of God, and expectant enough for the fulfillment of the promise that a ‘little child shall lead’ us? The fact that Jesus came as a child should speak eloquently to all times. What would it mean for the ‘restoration’ of generations if we recognized the divinity in each little life? Indeed, our eyes will see the salvation!
Lord, forgive me for the times I missed the divinity of so many in my classrooms, in my home and community. Fill me with your Spirit.
