Saturday December 25th: This baby is Emmanuel-God with us!

The light shines in the darkness

John 1:1-18

Happy and Holy Christmas! On this day, in John 1:1-18, we are presented with a biography of Our Saviour. This is a reminder to us that when we look at any manger scene, the ‘child’ sleeping in the mother’s arms, is our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He is ‘true God and true man,’ who came in flesh to ‘dwell’ among us!
We learn that He is “the light that shines in the darkness.” We would love to have read ‘the light overcame the darkness’, but God wants to tell us exactly that “the light shines in the darkness.” This baby is Emmanuel-God with us! He is no clockmaker God but One who enters the drama of our lives with us and so gives reason to hope.
Wherever there is darkness in our lives, in our communities and the world, we can be assured that God, the source of Light, is with us. He can shine in any darkness. Our discipleship response is to be ‘lights’ with Him and shine brightly!
