Friday December 3rd: It is our call

We cannot allow obstacles to prevent us from reaching out to Jesus or from following him.

Matthew 9: 27 – 31.

The two blind men who followed Jesus addressed him as Son of David. It was one of the messianic titles by which Jesus was identified. Israel’s hope was the Messiah would come from David’s House and line.

Advent is the season when we anticipate the Messiah’s arrival. And when he comes, he will be the healing and peace many long for. Their blindness notwithstanding, the two men identified Jesus in a way that others did not, and they rightly placed their faith in him. Their belief moved Jesus to heal them.

That they followed Jesus despite being blind, was a sign of their persevering faith. Their example to us is to persevere in the same way. We cannot allow obstacles to prevent us from reaching out to Jesus or from following him. If faith can move mountains, it can move any other thing that blocks our way to Jesus. See obstacles as encouragement for greater determination rather than impediments to a goal.
