Tuesday November 16th: Welcome all!

“This man too is a Son of Abraham”.

Luke 19:1-10

Wonderful things happen when we treat others with dignity and respect even those whose credibility we question. Zacchaeus was such a person. He was a wealthy senior tax-collector, hated because it was a known fact that much of tax-collectors’ wealth came through extortion of the people.
However, Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus and since he was short and no one made room for him, he decided to lower his dignity and climb a tree for a better view. Seeing his sincerity, Jesus, in front of everyone, called him down and invited himself to a meal. Of course, the people protested, how could Jesus eat with such a sinner! Unfazed, Zacchaeus, having been honoured by Jesus in turn made a magnanimous gesture and offered to give up half of his wealth. He was a changed man, a true Son of Abraham.
The challenge for us is to go beyond our prejudices, see the efforts of others to change, and interact with them as worthwhile members of humanity. Wonderful things do truly happen.
