Wednesday October 27th: Focus on Eternity

“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.”

Luke 13:22-30

Today’s gospel reminds us not to get distracted by what we do or the positions we hold but to focus on the real reward of eternal life. When Jesus was asked, ” Will only a few be saved?” His response is one that points us to what the true focus ought to be, ” entering through the narrow gate”. This “narrow” or “straight” gate is simple, not an easy option or easy to find. There will be challenges and pain but it leads to eternal reward or eternal life.

Jesus says in the gospel that ” I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” Our salvation is not dependent on our accomplishments but rather it is a gift of God, given freely to those who believe and accept this gift. At Mass we celebrate this gift of salvation offered to us which requires of us a response.
