Saturday October 16th: Come Holy Spirit.

“…For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say.”

Luke 12:8-12

The saying “lost for words” is very familiar to me. It happens at meetings; when trying to diplomatically respond during a difficult conversation; when trying to come up with a good reflection on the Word and even when praying.

In this text Jesus is very clear on showing us just how important the Holy Spirit is, to the point of saying forgiveness wouldn’t be given if we blaspheme against the Spirit. It is also a reminder that the Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity and is also God. The Holy Spirit was sent to strengthen us with power, to help us to deal with things in this dark world and live a life that is pleasing to the Father.

What really touches me is that I can call on the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, the Comforter, to help me find the words. And this can only happen when I acknowledge and put my reliance on God, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through me.

Come Holy Spirit, fall afresh on me. Amen.
