As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations this year, the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) hosted a Gospelypso/Choir competition in each vicariate during August-September. The theme was Revolution in the Holy Spirit with a focus on ‘Let us Rebuild’ (Families, Church, Our faith, etc.).
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the in-person showcasing of talent became a virtual production. The qualifying round of each vicariate’s production was streamed on YouTube and Facebook.
The Grand Finals Champions competition is schedule for Thursday, November 4. All Covid-19 protocols will be in place.
The six finalists in the Junior Gospelypso category are:
Tobago Vicariate: Kyria Job from the Goodwood community, Sacred Heart Parish.
Northern Vicariate: Josiah Duprey from Corpus Christi Church, Laventille.
Central Vicariate: Francois Sylvester.
Southern Vicariate: Dabria Baptiste from St Benedict’s RC Church, La Romaine; Aniya Norway, Mt Carmel RC Church, New Grant; and Cindy Ann Bigford, the Pro-Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,
The finalists for the Senior Gospelypso category are:
Suburban Vicariate: Shelia Warner from St Charles Borromeo RC Church Tunapuna and Eternal Light Community.
Eastern Vicariate: Candice Duberry, St Paul and the Holy Spirit Parish, Cumuto and Davis Melville, People of Praise, Arima.
Central Vicariate: Janice Romero, St Paul’s Parish, Couva.
Southern Vicariate: Meguella Simon, St Benedict’s RC Church, La Romaine and Andre Nelson, New Grant Parish.
Vying for the Champion Choir in the Archdiocese are:
The Joy Givers which will perform a rendition of ‘Too Much Hurt and Frustration’ composed by Pearl Mulrain and arranged by Allarna Duke-O’Neil. They are an all-female vocalist group (Allarna Duke-O’Neil, Ashlyn Melville-Cornwall, Kamlyn Melville-Pantin and Stacey Hercules-Fraser) from the combined music ministries of the Sacred Heart Parish.
The St Joseph’s Chorale from Scarborough, Tobago under the direction of John Johnson will perform ‘A Double Portion’ composed by Br Paschal Jordan OSB and arranged by D’Jorn Grandison.
Voix Riches is an all-female ensemble out of St Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando. They will be performing ‘Psalm 121’ composed by the late Ashford Joseph and arranged by Michael Hudlin and Voix Riches.
We also have Victorious Voices from La Divina Pastora, Siparia performing ‘Potter’s Clay’ written and composed by Br Paschal Jordan OSB and arranged by Giselle Joseph and Victorious Voices.
The Holy Cross Youth Choir from the Holy Cross Parish, Santa Cruz are performing ‘Divine Guidance’ written and composed by Yasmine Brito. They are an all-female choir led by Brito and include Mikella, Christinna, Maria and Gwen.
The St John the Baptist Choir from St John the Baptist RC Church, San Juan will be performing ‘Holy Spirit Come’ written by Melissa Burmant and Dale Stephen (composer).
Archbishop Jason Gordon has offered a Challenge trophy to the artiste that best represents our Catholic culture and Catholic identity.
We invite everyone to give full support to the finalists from their vicariate. Mobilise your vicariates and join CCR in supporting the young and young of heart in this competition.
