‘When it comes to things of God…just go with it.’
Maybe it’s part of our human DNA to look for signs, to need evidence for things we are trying to comprehend. Providing proof is built into our societal structure– we have cards as proof of identity; degrees and certificates as proof of education; references to provide proof of character for employment, and the list goes on.
There’s nothing wrong with looking for signs. Sometimes we all need the comfort of knowing that the decisions we are trying to make are the right ones. The trouble with the people in today’s Gospel is that they weren’t yet satisfied. Jesus had already worked so many miracles. He had even just cast out a devil! Yet, it was not enough. Really, what more did they want?
At times, our over reliance on signs can be a stumbling block. It keeps us from moving forward. When it comes to things of God, sometimes you just have to go with it and step out in faith.
