Friday October 8th: Rejecting the messenger.

People can become so blinded by personal bias against another that even the good they do is suspect.

Luke 11: 15 – 26.

Jesus was right in objecting to some people’s suggestion that he was working with the prince of devils in order to cast out devils. The thought is absurd. Nothing works against itself, that only leads to ruin. It is interesting to note, as Jesus pointed out, they did not say the same of their own people who also cast out devils. We can only conclude that their objection was not about the exorcism but the exorcist.
People can become so blinded by personal bias against another that even the good they do is suspect. This is the case with Jesus and those who accused him of working with the prince of devils.
How could Jesus be working with the prince of devils when he told him in no uncertain terms, in another passage: “Get behind me!” (Matthew 16: 23). If it was not clear to some then, it ought to be clear to us today that Jesus does not collaborate with the prince of devils, he vanquishes him.
