Monday September 20th: Overcoming Jealousy

We are called to be light bearers amid this ever-darkening world.

Luke 8:16-18

As much as I love butterflies, I don’t really like moths. Sometimes, I am even irritated when they orbit around the lightbulb at nights. I suppose that moths are attracted to light as jealousy is to light bearers. Left unchecked, jealousy can be very destructive. Perhaps, you’re reading this; and you have felt the bitter sting of jealousy which made you hide light. Hopefully, this gives you a little encouragement. There is no need to dim your light- just because of the jealousy of others. God will give you justice. Today’s gospel is a call for you- not those who have offended you.
We are called to be light bearers amid this ever-darkening world. This is not easy, but it is necessary. Even the smallest flame, like that of a match, is enough to dispel the darkness immediately. Today, we pray for those who have pulled away from community because of the jealousy of others. May God reawaken that light inside of them in a new way and release them into their purpose.
