Wednesday September 8th: Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

‘He is the one to save his people from their sins.’

Matthew 1: 1-16, 18-23

In this gospel reading we learn that Joseph was betrothed to Mary and, ‘she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit’. It is obvious that Joseph found himself in a very difficult situation and had a very important decision to make.

This story puts us in mind of the times we find ourselves in a situation where we have a very difficult choice to make that will affect the life that we were dreaming to live. It often comes with a decision to choose a career or vocation. You have to face your parents and tell them that you have a vocation for the religious life when they wanted you to choose a profession where you could make a lot of money.

At times like this we need to pray and listen to the Holy Spirit. We do like Joseph and accept what that inner voice of the Holy Spirit tells us.
