Resurrection Prayer Garden opened

Several parishioners in St Luke devoted their time, talent, and treasure in preparation for the opening of the Resurrection Prayer Garden on August 7.

The opening was presided over by Bishop Gabriel Malzaire of Roseau. Cardinal Kelvin Felix, and pilgrims from around the island also attended.

The Resurrection Prayer Garden, located near the presbytery, is the idea of parish priest Fr Peter Wamutitu and will be the first of its kind in Dominica, according to a report from the diocesan fortnightly Our Catholic Community.

The project has grown “bigger than expected” but it is a “welcomed addition” to the village of Pointe Michel, which is also home to the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette.

On Saturday, July 31, parishioners and eucharistic children, under the guidance of Carol ‘Teacher Carol’ Activille, began cleaning. A few men were also present to lend a hand and were instrumental in mending the broken fence.

After a walk on Monday, August 2 from Pointe Michel to Soufrière dubbed ‘A Walk with Our Priest’, the men, women and children returned to the vicinity of the garden hauling debris, while the women and children continued their beautification project.

The article mentioned that the Garden will serve as a quiet place of reflection, spiritual introspection as well as an opportunity to have an encounter with God.

“In the midst of the beautiful flowers and exotic plants, the Stations of the Cross and a grotto with a water fountain can be found. It is hoped that the garden will attract visitors for contributions to the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds.”
