Thursday August 19: Dress Code in Effect

Pope Francis kisses the altar as he celebrates Mass in the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae at the Vatican April 24, 2020. The pope began the Mass praying for teachers and students who have had to adapt to working online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Matt 22:1-14

“How did you get in here, my friend, without a wedding garment?”

I’m not one to reference pop culture. However, today’s Gospel, reminds me of one scene from the movie, “The Black Panther”. I imagined that the king looked at the man just as Shuri stared at M’Challa’s feet and exclaimed in horror, “What are those?” as she referenced his footwear.

During every Mass, we are invited to partake in this marriage feast of the Lamb. There is a dress code in effect as we approach the altar of grace. Most importantly, the garments of humility, charity and repentance are conditions for entrance into the kingdom of God.

That is why it is so important to remain in a state of grace. To do this, we must regularly examine our consciences, receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me in those areas of my life where I am not properly clothed with humility, charity, and purity so that I may be found worthy to feast at your banquet. Amen
