Friday August 6th: Feast of the Transfiguration.

It is about seeing Jesus shining through every poor person, homeless person, family, community member.

Mark 9: 2 – 10.

Transfiguration, unlike disfiguration, is beautiful. No wonder Peter said that it was so wonderful for them to be there. Jesus shared this beautiful, intimate moment between him and his Father with the three disciples.

The transfiguration was not only about the light of God shining through him, it was also about they seeing him as God. The transfiguration was they discovering Jesus’ divinity. What a moment for Peter, James and John!

Of course, we will not witness Jesus’ transfiguration in the way the three disciples did. However, we will certainly have deep moments of enlightenment about his presence to and love for us. Every consecration, every moment of Eucharistic devotion is about seeing Jesus shining through. It is about seeing Jesus shining through every poor person, homeless person, family, community member.

As Peter and the others did not, we cannot lose the special moments when God reveals himself in such a way. We can undoubtedly say we have seen the beautiful face of God and it was wonderful!
