Are we willing and open to the Word, to give it a suitable place to lodge, germinate and bear fruit?
Matthew 13: 18 – 23.
Today’s parable is Jesus’ explanation of ‘the parable of the sower’. In the parable the sower is Jesus and the seed is the Word of God. The parable speaks of the Word being planted everywhere, regardless of the type of soil they fell into. Every soil type received.
The soil types represent people. While actual soil cannot change its composition in an instant, people can. A person can go from unreceptive to receptive in an instant.
The parable then speaks to our receiving the Word of God with receptive and willing hearts. We can decide not to be deaf, not to be stubborn or not to be dismissive of the Word God is planting in our hearts today. We can decide.
The best advice that Jesus gives us today is, do not allow the difficulties that crop up to interfere with our receiving the Word of God. The question is, Are we willing and open to the Word, to give it a suitable place to lodge, germinate and bear fruit?
