Sunday July 4th: Returning home.

Are we willing to rethink our attitudes and behaviours?

Mark 6:1-6

The story of what happened to Jesus when he decided to return to his home town is a familiar story, one that happens to all of us: we achieve wonderful things far away from home – in another city, or perhaps in some other part of the world, where we are not well known; then the time comes when we know we must return to our own country and teach there, and we find that people at home do not see us in the same way.

The neighbours were concerned about where he got the knowledge, wisdom and power to do what he was doing. He was one of them. They were not interested in the truth or goodness of what he did.

We say we seek God’s will and follow Christ. Are we willing to rethink our attitudes and behaviours? Change is never welcome by anyone. Some who oppose abortion may also support racism and discrimination against sexual or ethnic minorities. Are we willing to rethink our attitudes and beliefs?
