Your light must shine in the sight of men
Matthew 5: 13-16
In this Gospel reading Jesus tells us that we must not be afraid to let our light shine forth. We must be ready to let all see what good works we are performing. We have had the example of people like St. Mother Teresa who performed her work of feeding the hungry and consoling the dying in Calcutta, humbly. Yet the whole world knew what she was doing. This is because she did not hide to do it.
During this time of pandemic there are several people and organisations that are practicing Jesus’ commandment of loving their neighbour as themselves by helping the needy. The SVP is one such. They are letting their light shine for all to see.
Jesus wants us to take example and do our good works, and there is no better work than obeying his commandment : ‘What I command you is to love one another.’ (Jn.15:17)
