Bishop Riocreux retires

GUADELOUPE

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Jean-Yves Riocreux of Basse-Terre and Pointe-à-Pitre on Thursday, May 13 as he has reached the age limit set by the canonical code at 75 years.

Paudal.com reported that pending appointment of his successor, Archbishop David Macaire of St Pierre and Fort-de-France, Martinique, becomes apostolic administrator of the diocese.

From the online source, Bishop Riocreux said in a message addressed to the faithful of the archipelago: “Bishop Macaire will thus ensure the interim by coming regularly from Martinique for important celebrations and meetings. This appropriate choice delights our diocese since Msgr Macaire knows Guadeloupe well, having often come to us as priest and then as bishop.”

“His fraternal presence will further deepen the links existing between our two dioceses. From next week, he will come for a first contact and meet the priests.”

Bishop Riocreux has served the diocese of Basse-Terre and Pointe-à-Pitre since 2012.
