T&T locals send aid to Kingstown diocese

Three containers filled with items were sent to St Vincent in early May to help those affected by the volcanic eruption.

From April 15, citizens were invited to donate items over a five-day period. Items sent included: water, canned foods, rice, milk, cereals, toiletries, soap, cooking oil, sugar, foodstuff, diapers, linens, cleaning equipment, first aid kits, personal hygiene,  brooms, mops, buckets, flashlights, batteries, sleeping bags, folding cots, blankets, and mattresses. These were collected in two 20-foot containers and one 40-foot container parked behind West Mall, Westmoorings.

The nonprofit organisation Rebecca Ann Foundation, a group of concerned Catholics and friends, Suzette Farah and Beatriz Ramoutarsingh coordinated the ‘From Trinidad to St Vincent with Love’ collection drive and delivery.

The filled containers were sent to Bishop Gerard County CSSp of Kingstown, and after clearance from the port there, Fr Kevin Murray and church volunteers received, stored and distributed the items to displaced residents in shelters.
