An idea that started one year ago has now come to fruition.
The Holy Family Cathedral Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes became a reality April 29, thanks to a benefactor who agreed to fund the project.
The idea to erect the grotto is so those who seek her intercession may find healing of mind, body, and soul.
Ten years ago, Fr George Williams, Administrator of the Holy Family Cathedral shared that a non-Catholic came to the presbytery with a sick child asking for prayers. Fr Williams prayed with the woman and child. Six years after, the woman took the child to the presbytery thanking Fr Williams for the prayers.
The Mount St John’s Medical Centre stands across the road from the cathedral, and the Cathedral parish has developed a pastoral care ministry at the hospital.
Then the idea to build a grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes was discussed with Bishop Robert Llanos, who immediately gave his approval.
Fr Williams put a team together and began to work on a design which went through different stages and deliberations. A design was finally approved.
At the blessing of the grotto, thanks was given to all involved, particularly the Hadeed family which asked for prayers for the repose of Lady Alfaf who died last year April 29.
