‘For Faith and Music: A Mass for the People’ goes online

The All Saints Anglican Church, Port of Spain came alive with the sound of voices, piano and steelpan on Friday, March 26, for the Trinidad and Tobago premiere of the Mass, Missa Brevis in F Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The concert entitled, ‘For Faith and Music: A Mass for the People’, featured a winning combination of Classical music with a pre-show of traditional Caribbean Folk songs, and a line-up of seasoned performers including: Aniya Carty-Hart, Samantha Stanislaus, Jendayi Toussaint, Janine Charles-Farray, Edward Cumberbatch, Carl-Anthony Hines, Mark Anthony Peter, Daniel De Cranie-Pierre, Jamel Williams, and Tiana Chandler, with musical accompaniment by pianist Andrew Samlal and The Lydian Steel.

Limited concert seating was filled with a sold-out audience attending to be a part of this intimate evening of music and scholarship under the baton of Michael Hudlin. The evening was a special one for the conductor, as it represented Hudlin’s final recital concert required before completing his Master of Music in Conducting – Choral, from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

In accordance with public health protocols, several safety measures were put in place and enforced by the concert producer, Chandelier Productions. These included, but were not limited to, mandatory mask wearing, hand sanitisation, temperature checks and contact tracing. Seating was physically distanced, and the show had no intermission.
