A bilingual Mass was celebrated on Palm Sunday (March 28) at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for the Hispanic community of the North West.
The Cathedral was beautifully decorated reflecting the special day.
Our celebrant was Fr Harold Imamshah of the North West Migrant Ministry which consists of the parishes of St Peter’s in Carenage, St John’s in Diego Martin, The Church of the Nativity, St Anthony’s, and St Finbar’s. Persons from Woodbrook were also in attendance.
Transportation was provided for those who needed it. Each person was given a sanitised heliconia leaf pre-packed in a plastic bag. These were blessed by Fr Harold while everyone sang Hosanna. The lectors were all Hispanic and uplifting Spanish hymns were sung throughout the Mass.
Feedback after Mass confirmed that it was enjoyed by all. Refreshments were distributed as the members of the congregation left the Cathedral and prepared to return to their homes. Remaining snack boxes were given to persons on the Brian Lara Promenade; the homeless and persons on their way home from work were happy to receive a meal. Police officers on duty were refreshed with bottles of cold water.
The members of the North West Migrant Ministry worked well together to plan this celebration of the Holy Eucharist with our Hispanic brothers and sisters as we ushered in Holy Week together.
