This Year is an opportunity to truly thank God for St. Joseph’s presence and contribution.

Matthew 1: 16, 18 – 21, 24.

Pope Francis declared this the Year of St. Joseph recalling the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. This special Year runs from 8 December 2020 to 8 December 2021 and can be, for us, an opportunity to reflect more deeply on the life of St. Joseph and his contribution to salvation history.

The Holy Father described St. Joseph as ‘A Father in the Shadows’. And truly he is, since so much of his life is hidden from us. Yet the little we know of him in the gospels is enough to appreciate that St. Joseph was a rock solid foundation for Mary and Jesus.

A foundation is hidden, silent and indispensable. Without it the building will collapse. Joseph was that foundation, not only for Mary and Jesus but also to humanity. This Year is an opportunity to truly thank God for St. Joseph’s presence and contribution.
