Tuesday March 16th: Compassion

“Going against the establishment is not an easy road”

John 5:1-16

Going against the establishment is not an easy road. Yet for some it is absolutely necessary, even imperative. Once you embark on a certain course of action due to your compassion and your commitment to being on the right path, the powers that be will always want to harass you and try, by whatever means necessary, to break you down, to control you or even eliminate you.

It was no different for Jesus. He was moved to cure a man ill for 38 years. This compassionate action of Jesus brought him into conflict with the authorities who felt Jesus was violating their rules by curing this man and encouraging him to carry his mat on the Sabbath. Following on this they tried in every way they could to get rid of Jesus. He stood firm against them.

Dear Father, give us courage so when faced with situations which need our compassion, we do the right thing even in the face of persecution.
